Japan Earthquakes 2011 Visualization Map

Insane - starting at 1:45

While on the subject of eathrquakes, here’s an interesting video.

I’m sure you all remember the earthquake that occurred in Japan last March. Japan is situated on the edge of a convergent plate boundary also known as a subduction zone. The Pacific plate is literally forcing its self under the Phillipine and Eurasian plates. Just try to imagine that, one gigantic piece of crust forcing itself under two other gigantic pieces of crust. Subduction zones are where the most violet earthquakes and volcanoes occur because of such activity.

This whole thing just makes me want to move to Japan and become a seismologist.

I don’t blame you! I’ve frequently considered moving there to become a seismologist. That or living in Indonesia and becoming a vulcanologist. Alas, the tornadoes keep me in America.
